Solutions to the social digital divide

The social digital divide refers to the gap between those with technology and without technology within the lower, middle and upper classes. This was very apparent during COVID when students had to do their work from home. In class we talked about how some students were homeschooled during that time or didn’t go to school because they didn’t have access to WIFI. In my rural hometown of Adna, WA students were given chrome books to do their work or were able to do their work on paper. I believe a solution to this would be catering more to those who aren’t able to afford technology.

  1. One of the biggest challenges we continue to face is access to internet service. The school district provided hotspots, but were still unsuccessful in reaching homes outside of networks. Families would sit in the school parking lot to get online. This type of learning environment, cramped inside the car, made it difficult to focus.
