Using data to tell stories

In class we talked about how journalists can use data to tell stories. The article I chose to examine from The Visual Capitalist is The World’s Fastest Growing Cities. “The majority of the world’s fastest growing cities are located in Africa—in fact, 17 of the 20 are located on the continent, with four of the 20 cities being located in Nigeria specifically.” This is due to the high birth rates in these cities which leads to the discussion of birth control. Data is helpful in showing the connection between the fastest growing cities and fertility rate. We see that birth control is necessary to protect our planet. Without birth control population increases and the increase of population leads to more use of natural resources. Data helps provide factual evidence in journalism stories. It is hard to disprove something when the numbers are right there. With this information we could provide the solution of funding more free birth control and education on fertility in these cities.
